Elevation
6,624 feet. Climate milder that Aspen and Snowmass, especially along the rivers. Average mean snowfall is 65". 

Climate Winter
(November to March) about 300 inches annual snowfall (but we always hope for more); daytime temperatures average 20-45 degrees, cooler at night. Surprisingly comfortable.
Schools 
Basalt schools (one each: elementary, middle and high schools) are part of the Roaring Fork (RE-1) district. Some students commute to private schools in Aspen or Carbondale. 

Transportation
Frequent bus service to Aspen, Snowmass, Carbondale and Glenwood Springs. 

Recreation 
Acclaimed gold medal fly-fishing, hiking or backcountry skiing in the White River National Forest. Ruedi Reservoir (sailing, windsurfing, water-skiing), kayaking, community pool. Incorporated as a town in 1901, Basalt still has an original, quaint charm and is filled with small fashion boutiques, galleries and some of the best restaurants in the valley.
