Getting Around the Aspen Area
Parking in Aspen: Aspen has a pay-and-display system for parking. Machines located in the middle of the block dispense a ticket you place on your dashboard. The machines take both cash and credit cards. Parking is free on Sundays and holidays.
More Free Parking: If you are downvalley and heading to Aspen, you can leave your car in the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority's intercept lot adjacent to Hwy 82. It's located across from the entrance to Snowmass Village, and the bus from there to Aspen or Snowmass Village is free.
To make sure you get the right bus, just check with the drivers.
Ride, Don't Drive: The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority, or RFTA (pronounced "rafta") runs buses from Glenwood Springs to Aspen. You can load skis and bikes on the buses, and the fares are reasonable.
Walking and Biking Paths: They’re everywhere. In some neighborhoods, such as parts of Aspen and much of Basalt and Carbondale, it’s faster to get around by foot than by car.
The Rio Grand bike trail, which runs all the way from Glenwood to Aspen, is a paved, car-free trail that follows the scenic and relatively right-of-way once used by the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad.
